A sake cup turned in Japanese hinoki cypress, weighing about an ounce. The rim is cut in the hazori style — flared outward — so the sake slides straight onto the tongue.
Hinoki is the wood of Japanese bathhouses and shrines: pale, fine-grained, faintly fragrant. Here it is sealed with a clear nano-glass coating that protects the surface without hiding the grain, so the cup can be used every evening. Grain and color vary from piece to piece.
Made for chilled or room-temperature sake; also good for a small pour of whisky or a digestif.
