Dainichi is the generous bowl of the shokyu line, named for a mountain near the workshop in Kaga, Ishikawa. It holds a full cup and a half — enough for noodles, a big salad, a dinner bowl, or a serving of ice cream — and its wide, rounded form sits steadily on the table.
Turned from a single block of Japanese zelkova, the classic wood of Yamanaka lacquerware, and sealed with a clear nano-glass coating that keeps food from staining or sticking while leaving the grain in full view. Grain and color vary from piece to piece.
The smaller Utatsu Bowl nests inside Dainichi, so the pair stores in the space of one.
