Nature & Clay
Nature & Clay works in Yabu City, in the Tajima region of northern Hyogo Prefecture. Its raw material comes from Mt. Shiroyama, on land the company owns: stone is quarried, crushed, and refined into Shiroyama Blue Clay, a wholly domestic Japanese clay laid down in lake sediment some 56 million years ago. It carries silicon, aluminum, and potassium.
The soap is made by cold process, which keeps the clay and the plant oils intact rather than cooking them. There are no preservatives, no synthetic fragrance, and no artificial color — the range is short because everything in it has to earn its place: bar soaps, bath additives, the pure clay itself, skincare, and gift sets.
It is a small operation making an ordinary thing carefully, from a material that exists in exactly one place.
