A one-of-a-kind spinning top from Nagahama, Shiga.
Iroiro Hama Koma is a hand-turned wooden spinning top created by Katayama Woodworks, a traditional woodturning studio in Nagahama, Shiga.

Each top is turned on a lathe from Japanese hardwoods such as cherry or zelkova, then hand-painted in vibrant rings of color. No two shapes or color patterns are ever the same—every piece is truly one of a kind. The tops spin smoothly and are enjoyable both to play with and to simply watch. Many people also enjoy them as a small interior object on a desk, shelf, or in an entryway.

Sizes

  • 50 mm (Small): Compact size that fits snugly in a child’s hand.
  • 70 mm (Medium): Easy to spin and watch—a nice balance of size and presence.
  • 90 mm (Large): A bold display size with a beautiful, dynamic spin.
