The Dainichi form — the generous bowl of the shokyu line, named for a mountain near the workshop in Kaga — turned in hinoki cypress and finished in natural urushi lacquer.
Cypress drinks lacquer deeply, so a new bowl looks darker than you’d expect. Use it, and the color clears: over months the finish turns toward a translucent amber-brown and the grain comes forward. It is the one piece in the collection that looks better the longer you have had it.
Light in the hand for its size, and the same width as the Natural Dainichi.
